Engineered Composite Solutions (ECS) and Robert Gordon University are collaborating on a development project.
The project aims to develop a non-destructive inspection technique that can detect interfacial delamination’s or disbonds between a Futurewrap composite repair and the metallic component to which it is bonded. Having a non-destructive inspection technique for detecting disbonds at the interface between a Futurewrap composite repair and the underlying component will provide an enhanced QA/QC procedure for Futurewrap repairs. Such an inspection technique could be used to enhance the integrity management of in-service repairs.
By monitoring the past and current size of defects at the interface, it would be possible to estimate the growth of the delamination and from this growth an estimate of remaining life could be made. This would provide a more accurate procedure for establishing the remaining life of the composite repair.
